{ Experience in Cafe }

Experience - Cafe was honestly one of the highlights of my life, not just this school year, but my life. For context I never really cook in the house or do that much chores because my family doesn’t trust me that much, which means I don’t have that much cooking experience NOR kitchen experience. When I first heard we were doing cafe I was of COURSE ecstatic. For grade 10’s, besides prom and graduation, Cafe is one of the biggest events in their batch and it truly was. Though we had less time to prepare, we still managed to pull through and it honestly amazed me. I was put in Kiosk and I was very spectacle of my own abilities to actually run a kiosk and cook at the same time, even with the help of my friends. I was the one actually cooking my funnel cakes which was honestly quite fun, though stressful when rush hour came along. The planning of kiosk itself also was honestly really fun and quite easy, everyone in Kiosk was super nice and always heard each-other out and the only problems that grew was really just solving for costs, we never had bad blood with each other and it was just a really fun time. On the day itself, it was quite entertaining and fun to actually work and cook, though it was my first time so I wasn’t the best at it, it was still so so fun! I had help from Shanelle, Luci, Annika, and from time to time Raika as she sometimes hanged around us if Finances weren’t doing anything. The planning for my dish took two tries, the first trial which was my cake pops which ultimately got rejected, then the second was my funnel cakes. Something about seeing Teacher Jhay and my fellow batch mates actually liking it where they asked for more lit a new fire within me, as someone who doesn’t cook- hearing that they liked my food was just so rewarding and I genuinely felt proud of myself for doing something I normally wouldn’t do. Whenever our Kiosk team had to plan, I always gave my feedback and always gave whatever was needed from me. On the days of Cafe itself, I maned my station and was cooking for almost half of the day and only took a slight break just to refresh and give myself some room to breathe before getting back to cooking. I have to admit, it was stressful, whenever I ran out of batter it’s always either that there was a pending order or it’s before rush hour so I had a slight time limit to making more batter. But I had wonderful help from the chefs if they were doing nothing! Shout out to Jill, Aneisha, and Zhang! I also have to admit it was tiring, making funnel cakes consisted of squeezing out batter and waiting for it to fry then having to plate it for each order was really tiring, but overall really fun! It was also really rewarding, I heard that parents liked them and also students, it seemed to be a big hit with the kids too! I was super proud of myself that day even if there were complications, on the second day I wasn’t able to serve anymore funnel cakes, but I instead became a helper for the savory Kiosk! I helped prep the food, like the Potato Tornados and the Potato Mochi, and I also helped cooking for the savory kiosk, along side Angel and Keila. With that I also was the one to be getting containers, forks, spoons, and other materials whenever we were running low. As I wasn’t able to serve anymore of my food, I wanted to help serve the other Kiosk’s food to keep myself helpful! Overall Cafe was my Roman Empire, being able to top the previous record with a cafe that took 3 WEEKS is such an honor to me! I truly loved experiencing Cafe, thank you to this batch, and to you, Teacher Jhay 💘💘
